Medicine for Queen Elizabeth: Paleography and Editing a Historical Document
Friday, January 26, 2018
- In this meeting of the CMRS Paleography Working Group, Dr. Michael Cornett, Associate Director of Duke's Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, will focus on a handwritten medical recipe made for Queen Elizabeth ca. 1600, which Michael discovered bound into a printed volume from the Rubenstein's Trent History of Medicine Collection. The volume will be displayed at the meeting, and participants will get hands-on practice reading and transcribing this remarkable medical recipe, learning along the way about how to approach a document once you decide to edit it for publication.
