Abstract:
This seminar, sponsored by the English Dept. and the Program in Medieval & Renaissance Studies, is open to students, faculty, and colleagues.

The workshop will draw from her recent book, Putting on Virtue: The Legacy of the Splendid Vices (Univ. of Chicago Press, 2008), which travels from Aristotle to Kant through medieval and early modern ethics and drama. She has also published Religion and Faction in Hume’s Moral Philosophy (Cambridge Univ. Press, 1997). Professor Herdt's primary interests are in the history of moral thought since the 17th century, classical and contemporary virtue ethics, and contemporary Protestant social ethics and political theology.
